Masters Top 10 Odds: Is Justin Thomas in the Driver's Seat?

Something about the Masters being played as the first Major in early April, between the end of college basketball season and the start of baseball, just feels right. Bettors have had many opportunities to scout competitors, from the Players Championship, to the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship, to last week’s Valero Texas Open, to name a few.

If you feel that identifying the winner of the 90+ golfer field in this year’s Masters is too intimidating, then the Masters Top Ten odds market is likely just right for you. The Masters Top Ten odds market is where one can get creative in balancing some of the top contenders with a great chance to win outright, with some fliers that may surprise.

That is precisely what we do here, with our five top plays to finish in the top ten at the 2022 Masters.

Masters Top Ten Finish Odds

Justin Thomas (+150) (Bet $100 to Win $150)

How has Justin Thomas only won one major to this point? It is only a matter of time before he dons the green jacket, and he came tantalizingly close in 2020 with a solo fourth-place finish. Thomas improved his finishes each year leading up to 2020 before a slight setback in 2021 when he finished T-21. Thomas leads the field in strokes gained over his last 24 rounds at the Masters. In addition, having a caddy like Jim “Bones” Mackay on the bag is certainly a plus, as he has been alongside Phil Mickelson for three Masters wins. The Players Championship is the only stroke-play event in the last four where Thomas did not finish top-10, and we expect a big week from him at Augusta National this week.

Collin Morikawa (+200) (Bet $100 to Win $200)

In two starts at the Masters, Morikawa has finished 44th and 18th, so it is obvious he learned a few things from his first visit. Morikawa has a solid all-around game but steps it up at majors, with two titles in eight majors played. He came tantalizingly close to being ranked No. 1 earlier this year and has putt much better recently. Morikawa is one of the most deadly golfers in the field at approach shots, and we like him to improve upon his 71.88 scoring average at Augusta National this week.

Sam Burns (+400) (Bet $100 to Win $400)

That noise you hear is the Sam Burns train rolling in hot to Augusta this week. Burns has won three tournaments (Valspar Championship twice, Sanderson Farms Championship) in the last calendar year, which has buoyed him to a top-10 world ranking. Only three golfers, and none since 1979, have won the Masters in their first appearance. So while history is against Burns winning outright, there are not many golfers in better form at the moment, which makes his +400 top-10 odds appealing.

Matthew Fitzpatrick (+450) (Bet $100 to Win $450)

With Matthew Fitzpatrick, there is a bit of a good news/bad news scenario imminent. The bad news is that Fitzpatrick has finished in the top-10 at a major just once, despite making the cut in ten of those 12 starts. The good news is that his recent form is outstanding outside of a poor Players result. Before the Players, Fitzpatrick’s last five results are a T-18, T-5, T-9, T-10, and a T-6. He is No. 1 on tour in overall strokes gained and already has one top-10 finish at Augusta. We like for him to add a second this week.

Billy Horschel (+500) (Bet $100 to Win $500)

It is only a matter of time before Billy Horschel carries over the success from other tour events into Majors. Horschel blazed onto the scene in 2013 with a T-4 finish at the U.S. Open, his first-ever major. Since then, Horschel has not cracked the top-15 in his last 30 majors. However, Horschel enters in good form with four T-16 finishes or better in his previous five starts. He has never broken 70 in 24 rounds at Augusta but has made the cut in five of seven Masters starts, and we are banking on him improving upon his career-best 17th place finish at this tournament this week.
