Masters Top European Odds and Predictions: Will Rory McIlroy Finish in the Top Ten?

Danny Willett and Sergio Garcia won the Masters in consecutive years in 2016 and 2017, but they are the only two European players to win at Augusta this century. Thus, when dabbling in the top European market at Augusta National, one often does not have to identify the event’s winner.

Jon Rahm does not only have the best odds of any European player at this Masters, he is the odds-on favorite to win the whole thing. But are his +250 odds to be the top European too short for our liking?

Here are our three best bets to be the top European at the 2022 Masters.

Rory McIlroy (+550) (Bet $100 to Win $550)

Amazingly, not many talk about McIlroy’s quest for a career slam anymore, but a win at Augusta this week would be truly historic. McIlroy missed the cut last year but has top-ten finishes in six of his previous seven trips to Augusta and is as good a bet as any to find himself in contention on Sunday. Suppose you could be guaranteed another top ten finish (he actually finished in the top five in two of the last four years). In that case, McIlroy may cash this bet for you, considering he could finish behind a handful of Asian or American players.

Shane Lowry (+1100) (Bet $100 to Win $1100)

If you are looking solely at course record, Shane Lowry is a laughable pick to be the top European, considering he has zero top-20 finishes and three missed cuts in six trips to Augusta. However, this bet is all about recent form, as Lowry has six top-25 finishes in his last six non-match play events. In addition, Lowry has had three sub-70 rounds out of 18 career rounds at the Masters, so he has shown he can go low, especially after he finished the opening round in 2016 in second place. If Lowry gets off to another hot start this year, he will be in good shape, considering he has consistently put three other solid rounds together of late.

Matthew Fitzpatrick (+1200) (Bet $100 to Win $1200)

This wager comes with a warning that Matthew Fitzpatrick is highly combustible, but he also comes with tremendous upside. Fitzpatrick has not endured the type of success at majors that one might need to feel confident in backing him in this market, as he has finished in the top-10 at a major just once. However, he is in as good of form as any entering the Masters, which makes his +1200 odds to be the top European appealing. Outside of a poor Players result, Fitzpatrick’s other previous five results are a T-18, T-5, T-9, T-10, and a T-6. He is No. 1 on tour in overall strokes gained and already has one top-10 finish at Augusta. I wouldn’t look too much further down the odds list after Fitzpatrick, but he is worth a flier.
