US Open Odds: Scottie Scheffler is the Bettors Favorite to Win the US Open

Scottie Scheffler is the bettors favorite to win this weekend at the US Open, and for good reason. He has four wins this season, highlighted by a Green Jacket, from his victory at the Masters. Oddsmakers have Rory McIlroy as the favorite to win this weekend, but Scheffler has the fourth-shortest odds, and it is very close within the top-four.

Scottie Scheffler US Open Odds: Winner +1400 (Bet $100 to win $1400)

Scottie Scheffler is a well-liked player in the PGA community, and has ascended to the top spot in the world (via FedEx Cup Rankings). He is behind Rory McIlroy (+1000), Justin Thomas (+1100), and John Rahm (+1300) on the odds board, yet he has received 8% of money placed on him and 6% of bets, both of which are the most of anyone competing.

To put this in perspective, no other golfer has more than 4% of the money or of the bets aside from Ridgewood's Finest. This is fascinating to me as he has had a bit of a hangover since the Master's, finishing no higher than 15th in five of six competitions since then.

That said, he did look much better in his second finish in the Charles Schwab Challenge. It makes sense generally to bet on the number one overall player in any sport, especially when there is some slight value in the play, but I think the field is wide open in this one.
