British Open Favorites and Sleepers: Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau Headline Favorites and Sleepers at the Open

This week is bittersweet for most golf fans around the world. On the one hand, it's a major championship week. On the other hand, it's the last time we can say that for almost nine months. So, most golf bettors want to get this week right, and that's where our British Open favorites and sleepers come in.

The best part about betting golf is that you get massive prices on talented golfers, especially during a major, and that's where our British Open Favorites and sleepers come into play.

We'll start by breaking down the British Open favorites, as it stands on Tuesday, and how we expect them to play this weekend at St. Andrews. Then, its time for the fun part as we get into British Open sleepers, or guys at +5000 or greater that stand a chance to win a major championship this weekend.

British Open Favorites and Sleepers

British Open Favorites

Rory McIlroy @ +1000 (Bet $100 to win $1,000)

The oddsmakers have decide that it's time for Rory McIlroy to get back to his major-winning ways this week at St. Andrews in front of a crowd that will be pulling for him. When it comes to British Open favorites and sleepers it has to start with McIlroy as he's the British Open favorite at every single sportsbook right now. His best odds of +1000 are currently available at BetMGM and you may want to jump on it before it drops into triple digits.

Xander Schauffele @ +1600 (Bet $100 to win $1,600)

Two weeks ago, Xander Schauffele isn't a name you'd expect to see among the British Open favorites, at least not at the top of the board like this. But, wining the Scottish Open a week before golf's fourth major tends to give you a push up the odds board. Schauffele is playing fantastic golf and proved last week that he's coming into the British Open in some of the best form we've ever seen from him. If you're going to bet on Xander Schauffele make sure you go over to PointsBet to get the +1600 as DraftKings has him all the way down to +1200 already.

Jon Rahm @ +1800 (Bet $100 to win $1,800)

The No. 3-ranked golfer in the world finds himself third on the list of British Open favorites for this year. Well, he's actually tied for third with Jordan Spieth, but we gave the nod to Rahm here. in 15 evets this season, Rahm has finished in the top-10 six times. He has just the one win, which came in the Mexico Open, but it's been a competitive year from Rahm to this point. Last year, Rahm finished with a T3 at the British Open, so it makes sense to see him among the British Open favorites here. Head over to bet365 to make sure you're able to grab this +1800 number as Rahm is shorter at every other book.

British Open Sleepers

Tony Finau @ +5000 (Bet $100 to win $5,000)

Tony Finau just barely makes the cut when we're talking British Open sleepers, but at +5000 he's still not getting the respect he probably deserves this week. Finau has finished within the top 30 of every British Open in which he's competed. Sure, we need a win, but we know his style of play suits links golf well. Finau has always had the length off the tee to compete here, but it's his short-game form of late which has me enticed by the prospect of getting him at +5000. For this number, you'll have to head over to PointsBet for your British Open sleeper on Tony Finau.

Patrick Reed @ +12500 (Bet $100 to win $12,500)

Patrick Reed is our only LIV golfer to make our British Open favorites and sleepers list, but +12500 is just too good of a number to pass up. Last time we saw him on the PGA Tour was at the Charles Schwab over a month ago and he was busy giving us his best showing of the season. Then, at LIV Portland, he goes out and finishes T3 after a final-round Saturday (that's weird) 67. Reed is playing good golf and he always comes out ready to compete when the lights are the brightest. Like most of our British Open sleepers on this list, this is just too good of a number to pass up. You can grab it over at bet 365.

JT Poston @ +15000 (Bet $100 to win $15,000)

It's tough to ignore getting JT Poston at +15000 when you consider his last two times out and that's how he finds himself on our list of British Open sleepers. Two tournaments ago, Poston went out at the Travelers Championship and put together a T2 against a talented field. Then, in his last tournament, he won the John Deere Classic. Like Finau, this is a golfer playing good golf at the right time. In a normal PGA Tour field, you'd never get a guy coming off two top-2 finishes at +15000. Because of the talent at The Open, you get Poston at this massive number over at DraftKings. So, be sure to jump on it.
