Young entered the tournament at +8500, but after a fabulous first round, the American sees his odds dwindle to +1000. These are currently the fourth-shortest odds to win the British Open, trailing only Rory McIlroy (+350) and Scottie Scheffler (+800), and Cameron Smith (+900).

Even at just +1000, after shooting a -8 and picking up two strokes on the field, an argument can easily be made that there’s still value in backing the New York native. Can Cam Young keep up this level of play? Let’s see how the sportsbooks are weighing his first-round performance compared to the rest of the field.

The 25-year-old is pretty much in uncharted waters compared to how he’s fared in other major championships in his career. Out of five majors that he’s played, Cameron Young has missed the cut in four of them. However, he's coming off of a T-3 performance at the PGA Championship back in May of this year.

Let’s take a look at some of Young’s competitors and their odds to win the 150th Open Championship. Rory McIlroy has been a popular pick throughout the week, and he’s still the odds-on favorite. LIV Tour’s own Dustin Johnson put together a great first round (-4), and looks to really silence his haters coming at +1800 to win. Here’s how the rest of the top-10 stack up.
