PGA Power Rankings: Top 5 for The Honda Classic

Following two consecutive high-level competitions that were won by top players Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm, the PGA Tour will start its swing through Florida at PGA National with a less-than-stellar field.

Due to the fact that PGA National is consistently ranked as one of the toughest courses on the PGA TOUR, the competitors in this event are in for a significant test.

Despite most top guys taking the week off, there are a few strong competitors left in the tournament, including Sungjae Im, Billy Horschel, Sepp Straka, Shane Lowry, and more. Let's take a closer look at the course and the top five players in this week's field.

The Honda Classic Course - PGA National Members Club

There are several golf courses located in the PGA National Resort, but its signature course, which Jack Nicklaus designed, is called the Champion Course and where this week's event will be played. 7,125 yards are recorded on the scorecard with a par score of 70, and while the total length is quite low compared to the PGA Tour standards, here in southeast Florida, distance is not the biggest impediment. 60 bunkers protect the fairways and greens, wind provides cover from above, and 15 of the 18 holes have water as an obstacle.

The Honda Classic Power Rankings

1. Sungjae Im (+1000) Bet $100 to collect $1000 DraftKings has the best odds, click here to bet

It should be no surprise that the 2020 champion Sungjae Im has taken the top spot in the rankings this week. Sungjae will be the betting favorite in a league of his own this week due to the fact that he has previously won this tournament. He finished tied for seventh here in 2021 and is the highest-ranked player in the field, according to the OWGR.

2. Shane Lowry (+1600) Bet $100 to collect $1,600 DraftKings has the best odds, click here to bet

During the previous year's Honda Classic, Shane Lowry was dialed until a monsoon started when he was standing on the 18th tee box. He was unable to make a birdie on the final hole, and he ended one stroke behind Straka. Lowry finished in a tie for 14th place in the Genesis Invitational one week after failing to make the cut at the WM Phoenix Open, and I like that forward momentum to carry in here.

3. Adam Svensson (+3000) Bet $100 to collect $3,000 DraftKings has the best odd

Following a top-10 finish at the Genesis last week, Svensson comes in with sky-high confidence following a November that saw him get his first win on the PGA Tour. With some of the best short game in the field, look for another great result here.

4. Billy Horschel (+2500) Bet $100 to collect $2,500 FanDuel has the best odds, click here to bet

A native of Florida, Horschel has yet to win in his home state, though he’s had some close calls as he heads into this week. With some of the best approach play on Tour, I like for him to find success this week.

5. Harris English (+4000) Bet $100 to collect $4,000 FanDuel has the best odds, click here to bet

The previous week was a step in the right direction for Harris English, who is still making his way back to full health. A Sunday score of 65 helped the Georgia native to finish in a tie for 12th place at the Genesis.

It would not be surprising at all if he were to carry that momentum into the Honda, which is an event in which he has previously enjoyed success.
