NHL Odds: Half of All Bets on Avalanche Since Pandemic Return Announcement

Earlier this month, we wrote about how the Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins were the most-backed teams to win the Stanley Cup.
Just 10 days later, the Avalanche have taken a commanding lead on the market with half of all bets behind them since the league's plan to return became clearer.
According to DraftKings, an eye-popping 50% of all Stanley Cup champion futures since the NHL announced its plan to return have backed the Colorado Avalanche (+1000), and 49% of the money is on them to win it all.
To put that into perspective, just 7% of all bets are on the second-most backed team since the return announcement, the New York Rangers (+4500). The Rangers also own 15% of the handle.
What makes Colorado’s dominance of the betting market even more uncommon is it’s not even the No. 1 team in its own conference. The Avalanche finished the regular season in 2nd place in the West with 92 points, 2 back of the St. Louis Blues.
The Avalanche’s +1000 odds give them a 9.1% implied probability of winning The Cup.
