The dust may still be just about settling in Tampa following a sensational Stanley Cup win, but oddsmakers are already looking ahead to next year’s contest.

And while the Lightning are being tipped as the likeliest winners of the Eastern Conference, they aren’t fancied by oddsmakers to win it all.

The accolade of betting favorite instead goes to Colorado Avalanche, who lead the market with odds of +800 which, put simply, implies an 11.1% chance of success. Tampa’s odds of +950 puts them a close second with a 9.52% chance.

For the Eastern Conference, Tampa leads the way with +400 odds (20% chance), ahead of nearest challengers Boston with +600 (14.29% chance) and Philadelphia with +700 (12.50% chance).

Oddschecker spokesperson Pete Watt: “History has shown up just how difficult it is to win consecutive Stanley Cups, and with plenty of teams bleeding plenty of new talent this year, it will be harder than ever.”

“However, given the steeliness that we saw from this Tampa side since the restart it is no surprise that oddsmakers have feared them enough to put them among the favorites this year.”
