2021 NHL Stanley Cup Odds: 4 NHL Teams Have Franchise Worse Odds in 20 years

2021 NHL Stanley Cup Odds: 4 NHL Teams Have Franchise Worse Odds in 20 years
The Stanley Cup odds this year are rough to look at. A few teams have their best odds in a long time, but the majority have their worst in a long long time. Most notably, the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Buffalo Sabers, and San Jose Sharks
Anaheim Ducks Worst Odds Since 1994-95
The Ducks are given +20000 odds to win the Stanley Cup. Those odds are the third-worst in the NHL this year, only the Coyotes and Sabers have worse odds. They’re also the worst odds the Ducks have had since their second year as an NHL franchise.
In 1994, the Ducks were also given +20000 odds to win it all. Those odds had the Ducks tied for the 2nd worst odds in the league with the Tampa Bay Lightning, only the Ottawa Senators had worse odds. Come to the end of the season, the Senators were the worst team in the league and the Ducks and Lightning were tied for the third-worst team in the NHL.Â
San Jose Sharks Worst Odds Since 1997-98
The Sharks are given +10000 odds to win the Stanley Cup. That ties them for 25th in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings. Bad odds to be sure, but not nearly as bad as the other teams on this list. Yet, they’re the team’s worst odds since 1997.
In 1997, the Sharks were given +15000 odds to win the Stanley Cup. That tied them with the Boston Bruins for the worst odds in the NHL. Of course, both San Jose and Boston made the playoffs that year. They were also both eliminated in 6 games in the first round.
Arizona Coyotes Worst Odds In Franchise History
The Arizona Coyotes are the NHL’s least successful franchise. Since coming into being, their .478 points percentage is the worst in league history. So, when they hit their worst odds in franchise history, that’s notable.
That’s exactly what’s happened this year. Oddsmakers give the Coyotes +25000 odds, only the Sabers have worse odds. This crushes the Coyote's previous worst odds of +17500, set in 2015-16. The Coyotes finished tied with the sixth-worst record in the NHL that year.
Buffalo Sabers Worst Odds In Franchise History
The Sabers are mired in their longest post-season drought in franchise history. Actually, it’s tied for the longest postseason drought in the history of the NHL with the Florida Panthers (1999-00 to 2011-12) and the Edmonton Oilers (2005-06 to 2016-17). So, it’s unsurprising to see them given terrible odds to win the Stanley Cup. Especially with all the drama surrounding Jack Eichel.
Still, their +30000 odds are astonishingly bad. The worst odds the Sabers had ever had to start a season prior to this year was +10000. When a team that very well could set the NHL record for the longest postseason drought in league history triples their worst odds in franchise history, it’s a sad state of affairs.
