Norris Trophy Odds: Cale Makar is the Heavy Favorite
Many would argue that Cale Makar was robbed of the Norris Trophy last year. Well, oddsmakers don’t think there’s much chance that happens two years in a row.
The Avalanche’s young defenseman is given -115 odds, or an implied 53.5% chance to take it home. Oddsmakers believe that Lightning defenseman Victor Headman is his biggest competition, and give him +375 odds or an implied 21.1% chance. Last year’s winner Adam Fox is given +475 odds, or an implied 17.4% chance after suffering an injury this season.
After the top 3 there just isn’t much competition. No other defenseman is given even a 10% chance to win the award. The closest is Roman Josi at +1000, or a 9.1% chance.
Cale Makar is a runaway favorite to win this award. He’s the only current award favorite to be given at least a 50% chance to win the award. The next closest is Rangers’ goaltender Igor Shesterkin, given +130 odds or an implied 43.5% chance to win the Vezina. That just goes to show how confident oddsmakers are in Makar. Makar not winning the Norris Trophy this year would be the upset of the season.
