2021 Preakness Stakes Odds: 60% of Bettors Backing Concert Tour During Medina Spirit Uncertainty

It’s been anything but a conventional few weeks for Preakness Stakes odds following the controversy surrounding the 2021 Kentucky Derby. For those that don’t know, Bob Baffert’s Medina Spirit, who went off at 12/1, won the Kentucky Derby this year and looked to be the next horse headed towards a Triple Crown attempt.

But, during post-race drug testing, it was found Medina Spirit failed after the steroid and anti-inflammatory betamethasone showed up in the test. Not only did this complicate the Kentucky Derby, but the 2021 Preakness odds are also in limbo now as we await a ruling on Medina Spirit’s eligibility.

If the results of the drug test are upheld, the second place finisher, Mandaloun, will be declared the winner of the 2021 Kentucky Derby and Medina Spirit will most likely be banned from running at the 2021 Preakness Stakes.

Preakness odds are in flux for now as we await a rulling. But, since the announcement, it’s been another Bob Baffert horse that led the way as Concert Tour is by far the most popular pick among the betting public for the 2021 Preakness Stakes.

2021 Preakness Stakes Odds

Concert Tour isn’t your standard Preakness Stakes betting favorite. The horse was in great form, starting its career with two massive wins. But following a disappointing third-place finish in the Arkansas Derby, the horse’s owner Gary West told Baffert he didn’t want to run Concert Tour at the 2021 Kentucky Derby.

But, following a good five-furlong run from Concert Tour at Churchill Downs following the Kentucky Derby, it was announced that the horse would run in the Preakness Stakes. And, as of Friday, Concert Tour’s Preakness odds sat at 2/1, making it the second favorite behind Medina Spirit.

If Medina Spirit is disqualified from the 2021 Preakness Stakes, you can expect Concert Tour to be atop the Preakness odds. Here is what the 2021 Prekaness odds looked like on Friday, prior to the announcement of Medina Spirit’s positive test.

2021 Preakness Stakes Betting

Since the news of Medina Spirit’s positive drug test broke, bettors have rushed to the window to try and get bets in on Baffert’s other horse, Concert Tour. In that time, 60% of all bets for the Preakness Stakes came in on Concert Tour to win, the most out of any horse with 2021 Preakness odds.

Despite the fact that Concert Tour didn’t run in the 2021 Kentucky Derby and left a lot to be desired the last time we saw this horse racing, 60% of people are picking it to win the 2021 Preakness. Is that a matter of people just jumping from one Bob Baffert horse to another? Is Concert Tour really that good? What about Mandaloun? I guess we’ll find out all that and more this Saturday during the 2021 Preakness Stakes.
