2022 Kentucky Derby Favorites
1. Zandon (3-1)
When we're talking about Kentucky Dery favorites, it probably makes the most sense to start at the top. According to the latest Kentucky Derby odds, Zandon leads the pack when it comes to this year's Kentucky Derby Favorites.
Zandon as the top Kentucky Derby favorite is a bit of a shocker. Not to say he isn't a great horse, but it was long expected that we'd see Epicenter as the favorite, following consecutive graded stakes wins leading up to the Kentucky Derby.
However, it's Zandon, who is trained by Chad Brown, that will be the Morning Line favorite once betting opens for the 2022 Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Zandon will be racing from the No. 10 post.
2. Epicenter (7-2)
As I mentioned above, Epicenter was expected by most to be the Kentucky Derby favorite, but he is the second favorite despite consecutive graded stakes wins, including the Louisianna Derby.
at 7-2, you still aren't getting fantastic odds on Epicenter, but they may only get worse, so now may be the time to pounce. Epicenter is trained by legendary trainer Steve Asmussen. Absent from this year's race is Bob Baffert, as he serves a two-year suspension from Churchill Downs.
3. Messier (8-1)
Rounding out the top three Kentucky Derby favorites is Messier, sitting at 8-1 on the Morning Line for the 2022 Kentucky Derby.
Messier is trained by relative newcomer Tim Yakteen and will have jockey John R. Velazquez riding. With a lifetime line of 6-3-3-0, Messier has compiled $435,600 in earnings. At 8-1, he's more than double the price of the two Kentucky Derby favorites, Epicenter and Zandon.
