2022 Kentucky Derby Final Field, Post Positions, and Odds
2022 Kentucky Derby Final Field, Post Positions, and Odds
It’s Tuesday of Derby Week, as the 148th edition at Churchhill Downs is now just days away. Yesterday afternoon, horses were drawn for post positioning, and as always, the odds associated followed shortly thereafter.
Always a mix of data and sentiment, the odds will continue to be bet into until minutes before the horses take off Sunday afternoon in Kentucky. As far as how important the post positions are, #5 and #10 positions lead the way with 10.9% and 10.6% of wins respectively, while #15 accounts for 10%. On the other side of the equation, #17 has never produced a Kentucky Derby winner, and #14 hasn’t produced a winner since 1961.
Unlike years past, this year’s field has no clear/cut favorite, and there are a handful of horses inside of 10/1 odds that have a real shot at taking this year’s crown.
While Epicenter and Zandon lead the way at right around 3/1, tMessier and White Abarrio are sure to make a push by week’s end. Let’s take a closer look at how the horses were drawn, their trainers and jockeys, as well as each horse's opening odds.
