Women’s Olympic Soccer Odds: USWNT Given 58.8% Chance to Advance to Gold Medal Game

  • Women's Olympic Soccer Odds
  • Team USA & Canada Olympic results
  • United States Women's National Team a -143 favorite over Canada in semifinals

There is a certain amount of pressure you deal with at an international tournament when you come in as the best team in the world. No one on Team USA has said as much, but it certainly looks as though, throughout the first four games of the 2021 Olympics, the USWNT has been dealing with that pressure.

They are yet to play a perfect game, or even a game I think they’d classify as good, but here they are, just one game away from the 2021 Olympic gold medal game and playing a team they’ve historically dominated.

Group play was ugly for the United States, losing their first game of Group G play, 3-0, to Sweden, followed by a dominating win over New Zealand and a 0-0 draw against Australia that had them finish in second in the group, thanks to goal differential.

That 1-1-1 record in Group Ply earned them a quarterfinal matchup against the NO. 4 team in the world, Netherlands, and after playing to a 2-2 draw in regulation, the USWNT advanced in penalty kicks.

As for Canada, they came into the 2021 Olympics ranked eighth in the world by FIFA. Their attack has left some things to be desired as they’ve struggled to score goals at times, but their defensive unit has been great to this point.

Brazil, a team that put up three goals in a tie against Netherlands earlier in the tournament, couldn’t manage a single goal in regulation or extra time.

If the United States is going to win, they’re going to have to figure out how to make the most of their chances.

Olympic Women’s Soccer Odds: USA vs. Canada

Despite the fact that they haven’t played up to their potential, the United States is still the favorite when it comes to USA vs. Canada odds in the semifinal. As a matter of fact, they are even bigger favorites than Sweden is against Australia in the other Olympic semifinal.

Canada, to this point, has managed to score more than one goal in the Olympics just a single time and it came against a lowly Chile team in the Group Stage. The United States has been shutout twice to this point, something that absolutely should not happen with the amount of talent they have on the field at any given time.

United States 2021 Olympics Results: Sweden 3, United States 0; United States 6, New Zealand 1; United States 0, Australia 0; United States 2, Netherlands 2 (Win PKs 4-2).

Canada 2021 Olympics Results: Canada 1, Japan 1; Canada 2, Chile 1; Canada 1, Great Britain 1; Canada 0, Brazil 0 (Win PKs 4-3).

Unlike their quarterfinals matchup, the latest USA vs. Canada odds have team USA as an odds-on favorite over Canada at -143. The US was favored in the quarterfinals, but with odds longer than even.

It’s going to be an uphill battle for Canada if they’re going to beat the United States, something that the Canadian National Team has done just three times in 62 games against the United States Women.

Right now, Canada is a +460 underdog in Monday’s semifinal.

The winner of Monday’s USA vs. Canada game plays the winner of the Australia vs. Sweden semifinal.
