PSG's Champions League Odds Cut Following Lionel Messi Signing

Lionel Messi has been rumoured to leave Barcelona for sometime now, but not many actually expected it to happen. Well it's happened! There's no surprise at all that Lionel Messi has chased the Paris dream, one of the only clubs who can afford is eye-watering wages.

Splashing the cash isn't a new trend at PSG, they've been doing it for year's, and despite dominating their domestic league (which isn't hard), they've yet to conquer Europe and win the Champions League.

It's hardly a shock to find them as favorites in the Champions League odds market, as they have Messi, Mbappe and Neymar as their front three.

Online sports betting sites have installed them as +350 favorites alongside Manchester City in the Champions League odds market. We'd expect PSG's Champions League odds to be cut further following the sheer amount of money that will be wagered on them conquering Europe will Messi in their squad.

BetMGM Sportsbook and FOX Bet currently have PSG at +350, whereas other sportsbooks have their odds much shorter. For example, FanDuel Sportsbook have gone +300 on PSG winning the Champions League.

If you didn't know, sportsbooks all offer Champions League odds, but they all have different lines set. If you wagered $500 on PSG to win the Champions League with BetMGM Sportsbook you'd be set to win $2250, but only $2000 if you place the bet with FanDuel Sportsbook.

PSG's odds of winning the Champions League were +1200 back in June, which means they only had a 7.7% chance. Obviously, they've signed numerous players since these odds were published, but Lionel Messi rumous had to biggest impact on their Champions League odds.

At the start of August, PSG's Champions League odds were +700.

PSG'S Odds

PSG are currently the massive Ligue 1 odds, which is the domestic league in France. This might not come as the most surprising thing you've heard all week giving the transfers they've made during the summer. However, we must remember that PSG didn't win Ligue 1 last season.

DraftKings Sportsbook currently have Paris St-Germain as -750 favorites to win the French league. PSG's Ligue 1 odds imply they've got a 88% chance of winning the league.

Given these odds you can expect Messi to add to his already impressive trophy collection, and also expect him to score a lot of goals in the French league.

Lionel Messi Signs With PSG

Lionel Messi has been the talk of sports news all around the world over the last week with the fiasco going on with Barcelona. We reported earlier that online sports betting sites had actually cut his odds on staying at Barcelona, but it's been announced that Messi has agreed to sign for PSG.

The details of the contract haven't been released, but rumours are he's getting paid around 35 million euros per season, which is crazy!

The contract is rumoured to be two years long, but there's an option to extend the deal to June 2024.

Lionel Messi is expected to fly to Paris today to complete the deal, and feature in a press conference on Wednesday. Odds for Lionel Messi to be top goalscorer in the Ligue 1 haven't been announced, but the odds will be very very short, in the region of -700.
