Erling Haaland Next Club Odds: Ranking the Top 5 Most Likely Landing Spots
Erling Braut Haaland is a 21-year old Norwegian professional soccer player who is a striker for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Norway national team. The Bundesliga is the professional soccer league in Germany. Some of the best players in the world play in the Bundesliga such as Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Andre Silva, Joshua Kimmich, Kingsley Coman, Alphonso Davies, Serge Gnabry, and many more. It is considered a top-five league in the world but many players have started their careers in Germany and transferred to larger markets such as England or Spain. So we have taken an in-depth look and ranked Haalands five most likely destinations.
Erling Haaland's contract with Borussia Dortmund runs until 2024, but it contains a £64 million release clause that comes into effect in summer 2022. So many clubs will be clamoring for his services before then. We have Haalands most likely next team ranked here.
The English Premier League boasts the most soccer talent in the world and also the most teams with the most money willing to spend to sign Erling Haaland. There are also a few clubs in Spain that are as big as they come. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are the ones to name.
Haaland was strongly linked with a move this past summer to EPL giants, Chelsea. They made contact with Dortmund, but they made it clear they would not be selling for any fee meaning they would sacrifice money to keep him for another 12 months as his contract runs out. Chelsea was willing to pay up to £150m. Chelsea is likely out of the running as they signed striker Romelu Lukaku near the end of the summer transfer window.
One of the biggest stories is about to pick up steam again though as all of these clubs will try to convince Haaland to join them next summer and we have those teams ranked here.
There’s no doubt that Erling Haaland is one of European soccer’s top commodities. The Norwegian striker has torn the German league apart and left defenders in the dust throughout his young career. Haaland has 43 goals in 46 Bundesliga appearances.
With the biggest soccer stars in the world, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo changing teams and leagues this past summer, Erling Haaland has obviously caught the eye of the biggest clubs in the world. We rank the top five most likely teams to land Erling Haaland here.
Erling Haaland Top Five Most Likely Clubs
1. Manchester City
Yesterday it was announced that Erling Haaland's agent Mino Raiola is expected to meet with and hold talks with Manchester City in January over a potential move next summer. Haaland's father played for Manchester City from 2000 to 2003 and they are on top of his most likely destinations. Manchester City missed out on Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo this past summer and is still in search of a world-class striker to lead the way. Raiola is determined to make Haaland the highest-paid player in the world and Manchester City is one of the very few clubs that can afford to do so.
2. Real Madrid
The La Liga giants showed that they are real contenders for Haaland when they submitted a bid for French striker Kylian Mbappe over the summer northwards of €200 million. They showed they are willing to spend. Mbappe plays for PSG but has been rumored to have a desire to play for Real Madrid. Mbappe has also rejected extensions from PSG and if he heads to Real Madrid then it is likely Haaland will play for a different club but in the case he doesn't, Haaland can easily head to Real Madrid.
3. Manchester United
According to ESPN, United has made Haaland their "priority transfer target next summer" despite the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo. It's believed that Ronaldo could even help lure the 21-year-old to Old Trafford given his admiration for the Portuguese superstar. Haaland has strong relationships with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and former teammate Jadon Sancho in Man U. If Manchester City opts for the less expensive option of Harry Kane the door opens for Manchester United to swoop in. Also, the sale of Newcastle has opened the possibility of United selling multiple pieces to them in order to free up money to bid for Haaland.
4. PSG
If the aforementioned Real Madrid signs Mbappe, then Haaland to Paris becomes a real possibility. PSG will look to fill the void if Mbappe leaves for Madrid and they have proven to be incredible in the business of transfers as they managed to sign legend Lionel Messi this past summer.
5. Bayern Munich
Also, members of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich have dominated the league for a long time. They have one of the best if not the best in form strikers in the world already in Robert Lewandowski but he is 12 years older than Haaland and Bayern will try to convince him to stay in the German league and fill the shoes of Lewandowski. The only issue is Bayern may get priced out of the bidding war. Bayern is on course to win a seventh straight Bundesliga title and getting Haaland could cement their league domination for the next decade.
Notable Mention Newcastle: Newcastle is currently listed at +5000 odds to land Erling Haaland according to Betfair. The rumor of Haaland to Newcastle was squashed a short while ago by German insider, Christian Falk. Last week Newcastle shot up soccers rich list after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and Amanda Staveley's PCP Capital Partners bought out Mike Ashley. The new owners wealth has given Newcastle plenty of financial room to play. This means they are set to spend big in the coming transfer windows.
