Pep Guardiola Next Club Odds: Could Pep Come to America?
Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest coaches in soccer today. Any club around the world would kill to have him. Could he spurn all the major clubs to come to MLS and coach NYCFC? Oddsmakers believe it’s a real possibility.
Oddsmakers are giving +1000 odds, or an implied 9.1% chance that NYCFC will be the next club Guardiola coaches. That puts NYCFC fourth on the market, behind only a return to Barcelona, +200, a move to Juventus, +225, or going international with the Spanish Men’s National Team, +600. NYCFC has the same odds as French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Bettors disagree with the notion though. Since the market opened, only 0.7% of bets have been placed on Guardiola to move to NYCFC. Instead, they’re backing the three European Giants. Juventus is the leader with 39.2% of bets placed on them. Barcelona follows with 28.8% of bets. PSG is third at 11.8%. The contrast between NYCFC and three of the most prestigious clubs in the world is clear to see.
Guardiola to NYCFC isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds for a number of reasons. The biggest is that NYCFC is owned by Manchester City and would likely have first access to Guardiola. Other than that though, it’s not like they’ve had trouble reeling in big fish before. Current manager Ronny Deila was sought after in Europe as well. Before him, it was Patrick Vieira who now manages Crystal Palace. Guardiola would be the biggest fish of them all, but perhaps bettors are downplaying the potential move to NYCFC a little too much.
