The Champions League returns to our screens this week as the biggest prize in club soccer restarts, and Manchester City have been the most backed team to win the competition over the past 7 days.
On Friday we see the second legs of the 'Round of 16' to decide who makes it to the quarterfinals in Lisbon, which for the first time ever, will consist of just one game instead of two.
It's no surprise that the two favorites lead the betting, with Man City accounting for 16% of bets this past week, just ahead of Bayern on 15%.
Manchester City face Real Madrid with a one goal lead, having won in Madrid in February. A large chunk of bettors think that the winner of this clash will win the tournament, with Real the third most backed team, accounting for 14.75% of total bets.
Whilst City have been the most popular bet it's Real Madrid who have had the most money wagered on them, making up 53% of total handle in the past week. We've written previously about the appeal of Real given their performances down the stretch in La Liga, and the huge odds, which have already shortened from +3300 to a best price of +3000. Some books even have the Spanish Champions at +2000, a huge difference in price.
The second most-backed team in terms of handle is Real's city rivals Atletico Madrid, who made 21% of the total bet this week, and 11% of the total bets made.
RB Leipzig have also shortened in price over the past two weeks as they've gone from a best price of +1700 to +1500, ahead of Italian Champions Juventus, which would be seen as a shock to many. They've not had much support from Oddschecker bettors, with only 1.78% of bets this past week being on the Germans.
