On Tuesday we saw Kylian Mbappe announce himself as the best player in the world. The 22-year old is already one of the games biggest stars and a World Cup winner but his performance as PSG humbled Barcelona felt like a transition, with the forward overtaking Lionel Messi as the best player on the planet.
That performance reignited speculation that Kylian Mbappe Lottin would soon take another leap in his career and join a European giant. For a long time he's been linked with Real Madrid, following in the footsteps of his hero Cristiano Ronaldo, but now the sportsbook believe that he'll be heading to Liverpool.
One British bookmaker have priced Mbappe at 6/1 (+600) to join the Reds. Those odds imply a 14.3% chance that the World Cup winner will end up in Merseyside. Liverpool have long had an interest in Mbappe, with the club close to signing him in 2017 before he moved to back to his home city of Paris. John W Henry principle owner of Liverpool, and the Boston Red Sox, took Mbappe and his close afmily on a private jet tour and spoke with the player. Ultimately the player decided to continue his sporting education in Ligue 1. They've kept track of Mbappe ever since and the bookmakers believe that they are the favorites should he move in the summer of 2021.
At 8/1 (+800) the second favorites are Real Madrid. There's an 11.1% chance that we see Mbappe in that famous white jersey, with doubts over Real's finances the reason behind them being second in the betting. They've previously been the front runners but Madrid cannot compete with the financial power of the Premier League giants. It was his boyhood dream to be the new Ronaldo and play at the Bernabeu. He almost joined Los Blancos in 2012 when he visited their training ground and met Zinedine Zidane. He even has photographs taken with his hero Ronaldo, which he then stuck on his bedroom wall. Madrid will be hoping that the draw of following his dreams will be enough to lure the star striker to Spain.
Bookmakers believe that it's a two-horse race, with the next most likely destination being the current Premier League leaders Manchester City. With Sergio Aguero getting older and frequently being injured it's obvious that Pep Guardiola's team will be looking for a dynamic attacking talent to replace him. Guardiola even namechecked Mbappe when he discussed his side not having any gamebreaking individual talents in an interview last week. At 16/1 (+1600) the books see it as being unlikely, making it just a tiny 5.9% that we see Mbappe in Manchester.
There's just a 4.8% chance, 20/1 (+2000), that we see Kylian Mbappe get a transfer to Barcelona. It's undeniable that Barcelona need to recruit more young talent to replace Lionel Messi, who is likely leaving the club in the summer of '21. Given the huge debts that the club have and the extreme financial difficulties ahead of them, it seems very unlikely that we'll see Mbappe playing at Camp Nou in the colors of Barca.
