The transition to the MLS has been hard on Orlando City. It certainly doesn’t help that they sold off two strikers to European teams. Still, they’ve only made the playoffs twice and never made it past the quarterfinals. Well, bettors expect things to be different this year in Orlando.

Oddsmakers view Orlando City as a mid-tier club. They’re given +4000 odds, or an implied 2.4 percent chance to win the MLS Cup. That puts them 16th on the MLC Cup odds market. Well, bettors think that oddsmakers are sleeping on one of the best teams in the league.

Over the last 30 days, 25 percent of bets have been placed on Orlando City to win it all. The New England Revolution and NYCFC are tied for second on the betting market with 12.5 percent of bets were placed on each of them. Of course, oddsmakers look at both more favorably. The Revs are second on the odds market at +800, or an 11.1 percent chance to win it all. Meanwhile, NYCFC is fourth with +1000 odds, or an implied 9.1 percent chance to repeat as champions.

One way to replace a national team-level player such as Darryl Dike is to bring in another top young player. That’s exactly what Orlando City did when they spent a club-record nine million dollars to bring in Facundo Torres. They also brought in Torres’ teammate in Uruguay Cesar Araujo. It didn’t stop there though. The team also brought in Ercan Kara from Austria and drafted Jack Lynn pin an attempt to replace Dike upfront. Bettors clearly like the strides the team’s attack has taken this offseason. Only time will tell if the team has sufficiently replaced their former star striker.
