Neil Lennon is under huge pressure to keep his job at Celtic and has hit out at "disrespectful" speculation that he is soon to be sacked.
It seems almost certain that the Northern Irish manager will be out of a job soon, with Celtic 23 points behind their hated rivals Ranger, who sit at the top of the Scottish Premier League table, albeit with 3 games in hand.
Is Rafael Benitez joining Celtic?
One name who keeps popping up is former Liverpool and Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez who is now an odds-on favorite to replace Neil Lennon as Celtic's next permanent manager. Yesterday a number of British bookmakers even suspended betting, so strong was the speculation.
The Spanish manager is a best price of 4/6 (-150) to take over, which implies a 60% chance that the former Newcastle manager will be the next manager.
With Rangers heavy favorites to win the league this year, stopping Celtic from winning a historic tenth title in a row, it's imperative that the Bhoys get in a top class coach, to try and win the title. Rafa Benitez would be a fascinating addition, a genuinely top level manager, who has history with Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, who was his captain when the Spaniard was manager of Liverpool.
Will Eddie Howe be the next Celtic manager?
Eddie Howe was once one of English soccer's hottest managerial prospects but a poor final season at Bournemouth, which saw the Cherries get relegated, damaged his reputation. That said, he played a very attractive style and could be the right man to reinvigorate Celtic's team. Howe was a long-term favorite for this role, but after Benitez's burst to the top of the market, the Englishman is now 7/2 (+350) to take the job, implying a 22.2%.
Howe seems like a more realisitic option to land at Celtic Park, he'd likely command a lower salary, and a the chance to rehabilitate his image like Brandon Rodgers did with a spell in Scotland, might be too strong to turn down.
Who will be the next Celtic manager?
Besides Benitez and Howe the next shortest price on the betting markets for Celtic's next manager is recently sacked Frank Lampard, who left his job in London only this week. At 9/1 (+900) it seems unlikely, with the front runners fighting it out for the job.
Other names in the frame for the job include John Kennedy (+1400), Jack Ross (+1600) and Roberto Di Matteo (+2000).
