Top 5 Goalies in the 2022 World Cup

5. Manuel Neuer (Germany)

In all likelihood, the 36-year-old Manuel Neuer is headed to his last FIFA World Cup next week. However, Neuer's significance in the context of Germany has not lessened with age. Bayern Munich's goalkeeper has already won a World Cup when Germany was named the 2014 World Champions. In that competition, Neuer also took home the Golden Glove trophy for making the most saves. With young players on the squad, Germany is attempting to recover from the World Cup debacle of the recent past, and Neuer's extensive club and international experience will be crucial when the going gets tough.

4. Hugo Lloris (France)

Even before the ball is kicked in Qatar, France's title defense appears weak as Didier Deschamps' job has been made difficult by injuries to important players and controversy off the field. Hugo Lloris, the captain and goalie for France, will be counted on by Deschamps to keep his squad composed and motivated in trying situations. Lloris made his senior team debut for France back in 2008, and he has since participated in 139 games. The Tottenham star has a tough task ahead, but his experience should carry him (and France) through.

3. Jordan Pickford (England)

Jordan Pickford, Nick Pope, and Aaron Ramsdale are the three goalkeepers who are a part of the England World Cup roster, as Pickford will almost certainly start for the “Three Lions” in Qatar. Pickford deserves praise for being just the second goalie in World Cup shootout history to save a penalty for England as he did during England's Round of 16 matches against Colombia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Pickford has participated in 45 games for England and has kept a spotless record in 21 of those games and will play a crucial role if the team led by Gareth Southgate needs key saves late; an almost certainty.

2. Thibaut Courtois (Belgium)

One of the key players of Belgium's "golden generation", the 30-year-old goalkeeper has enjoyed a fantastic 2022–23 season already, winning La Liga, the UEFA Super Cup, and the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid. Courtois can be like a wall in front of the goal that even the finest forwards in the world are unable to penetrate when he is at his best. Courtois also had a memorable World Cup last go around, starting a counterattack after making a save that led to Belgium's dramatic win against Japan in the round of 16.

1. Alisson (Brazil)

At the club level, the Liverpool goalkeeper has been in fantastic form this year and has made many crucial stops for the squad when they needed him most. Alisson has the ability to take over a game from the goal and excels at beginning counterattacks from the back. Watch out for Alisson performing his magic in between the poles as Brazil, one of the favorites to win the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, takes the field.
