Top 5 Players in the 2022 World Cup
5. Harry Kane (England)
The Three Lions' captain has scored an average of one goal per World Cup match over the course of his career and looks to keep that pace in this year's edition. To tie Wayne Rooney's 53 goals as England's all-time leading scorer, the Tottenham star needs just two goals while wearing an England jersey.
Kane is a capable all-around midfielder who can play in central midfield or as a lone striker. As has been the case throughout his career, Kane's size in the box should prove again to be a real problem for defenders.
4. Fabinho (Brazil)
It's improbable that the 29-year-old Liverpool midfielder will record a goal at the 2022 World Cup, but that's not what he does best.
He is one of the sport's top defensive midfielders thanks to his strong style, and with a start XI that features nine attackers, he will be the anchor. He can switch to a center back when necessary, and because of his excellent awareness, he is praised for keeping possession of the ball, cycling it, and converting threats into fresh attacks.
3. Michy Batshuayi (Belgium)
There are superstars on this Belgium team in both Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne, but Batshuayi, who has scored 26 goals for Belgium, always comes through the brightest when it counts the most. He will collaborate well with his teammates again here, to generate opportunities out of thin air thanks to his strength and speed.
2. Neymar (Brazil)
Scoring 75 foals for Brazil to this point, Neymar simply can do it all. He can operate as a striker, winger, or midfielder, and has all the abilities you could want, along with speed. He will outrun opponents and has the ability to score with either foot, or his head, and is never short on flair in doing so.
However, Neymar has a large bullseye on his back. A lot of physical challenges will be made against him. No doubt, though, he will make the most of each one by diving and wildly rolling over the field.
1. Kylian Mbappe (France)
Who among the younger generation is capable of replacing Messi? One candidate may just be the Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe, who can do so by simply looking over Messi's shoulder.
With France, the 23-year-old has now scored 28 goals, and the versatility of Mbappe, another forward who can play on either wing due to his both-footedness, allows him to create opportunities and assist for his teammates, especially when coming from the right. His creativity, quick acceleration, and abrupt changes in pace and direction confuse opponents and he has a tremendous opportunity to advance toward becoming one of the greats with a strong showing here at the 2022 World Cup.
