New York Sports Betting: Launch Date
The New York sports betting market is set to launch on the 8th of January at 9am. The date for this launch has been a long time coming as the list of sportsbooks available in the New York sports betting market have been known since November 8th, 2021.
New York Sports Betting: Which Sportsbooks will be available at launch?
On November 8th, 2021 the New York state gaming commission selected nine sportsbooks to offer mobile wagering in New York. The nine sportsbook operators will be charged at 51% tax rate and include some of the biggest names in the sports betting industry. The nine New York sports betting operators are:
- DraftKings Sportsbook
- FanDuel Sportsbook
- Caesars Sportsbook
- BetMGM
- WynnBET
- PointsBet
- BetRivers
- Bally Bet
- Resorts World
However, when sports gambling officially goes live on Saturday, January 8, not all nine approved operators will be set to allow sports gambling in the state of New York. For the time being, just DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars and BetRivers will be live in New York.
The reason is likely because DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars and BetRivers all have existing partnerships in place with New York casinos, something that is necessary to begin allowing online bets in New York.
That means that DraftKings, FanDeul, Caesars and BetRivers are all free to go live at 9 am ET on Saturday. But, WynnBET, PointsBet, BetMGM, Bally Bet and Resorts World will have to wait until they strike a deal with a NY casino.
New York Sports Betting: DraftKings New York
DraftKings are one of the biggest sportsbook operators within the mobiles sports betting market. After years of success in the Fantasy Football market, it was an easy transition for DraftKings to switch to sports betting. DraftKings continue to be at the top of the game thanks to the usability of their app, the selection of sports markets to wager on and the amazing DraftKings promo codes that are available each week. The current DraftKings promo code welcome offer gives new sports bettors $1000 on sign up.
The New York sports betting market will be instantly competitive so we’d expect DraftKings New York to arrive with some HUGE DraftKings promo codes for their new New York sports betting customers.

New York Sports Betting: Legislation History
Although the first sports betting bill was taken to committee by Sen. Adams way back in 2009, New York sport betting has failed to move forward in their bid to launch until very recently.
In 2015-16 New York sports betting took a step forward as, after previously banning Daily Fantasy Football, the state passed the Fantasy Football law – allowing New York sports bettors to legally access and use Daily Fantasy leagues in the state.
Between 2016 and 2020 bids to pass sports betting laws were thwarted time and time again, and the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 quickly stalled any hope of New York joining the live sports betting states.
In 2021, a new hope for New York sports betting arose, as Gov. Andrew Cuomo stated willingness to include mobile wagering in his state budget. New York was facing over a billion dollars in deficit and Cuomo finally turned to the sports betting market revenue.
In April 2021, New York lawmakers approved a $212 billion deal that legalized mobile sports betting in New York, and the tentative date of pre-Super Bowl 2022 was circled on the calendar.
Fast forward to now, and we finally have a launch date for New York sports betting market, and potential sports bettors in the Empire state can rejoice knowing they have passed (hopefully) the last of the set-backs.
