New York Sports Betting: Recapping the First Week of Online Sports Wagering in the Big Apple

This past Saturday, New York sports betting became legal, bright and early, at 9:00 am. It was perfect timing for the state. It was just a day before the final regular season in the NFL season, that night the Rangers and Knicks were in action, and it was just two days out from the College Football National Championship.

New York saw some pretty impressive numbers as well. During the first 12 hours that it was live, New York became the number one state in sports gambling. Not too bad for the Big Apple and the infancy of this new venture.

AZ1.0 M

Obviously, with New York as one of the biggest markets in not only the country but in the world, the expectation was for the launch to be big. I don't think anyone thought that it would be the biggest launch in history by 152.2% big though. 5.8 million users in the first 12 hours is just insane numbers for New York.

The first sports New York sports betting revenue report is expected to arrive in early February but there are already predictions that it could be near the $1 billion mark for the first month. For context, New Jersey just went three months in a row with over $1 billion in total handle. If New Jersey is doing it consistently, the theory is that New York will be doing it if not by the end of January, then by the time of the Super Bowl.
