DraftKings Ontario Stops Daily Fantasy Ahead of Sports Betting Launch
DraftKings Ontario has ceased all operations on their Daily Fantasy Sports product in Canada, just hours before the launch of DraftKings Sportsbook going live in the state.
DraftKings confirmed the cessation of DraftKings Fantasy Sports in Ontario in an officially message sent to Daily Fantasy users in Ontario. As of 10am ET on May 17th users have been restricted from setting any new lineups and participating in any Daily fantasy competitions.

DraftKings Ontario: Why Has DraftKings DFS Been Halted?
There are a couple of key factors in DraftKings decision to close down their Daily Fantasy option in Ontario. Both issues stem from the fact that the AGCO view Daily Fantasy Sports as a form of pay-to-play betting, and therefore requires it to abide by the same legislations and rules.
Labeling Daily Fantasy Sports as 'pay-to-play betting comes with a set of problems. One, operators would be required to pay a $100,000 licensing fee and 20% of all the revenue yearly, and also operators must only allow players to play against users in the province exclusively.
It's evident that DraftKings Ontario viewed these restrictions as too constraining, and has decided that focusing on DraftKings Sportsbook in Ontario is their best bet.
