With the impending launch of online sports gambling in North Carolina on March 11, there is currently no form of online betting right now.

However, online sports betting has become increasingly widespread across the US, with state launches happening fairly regularly over the last couple of years.

The last of note was Ohio, which has a population of around 12 million meaning thousands more people were entering the online sports gambling market.

It's expected to be a similar story for North Carolina, with a population of just over 10.5 million, it's going to be a busy day for bookmakers on March 11.

Can you gamble in person in North Carolina?

While you cannot currently gamble online in NC, you can bet in person. There are currently three retailers where bettors can gamble in person.

Until March 11, people will have to place their bets at these locations until sportsbooks such as DraftKings and FanDuel open their doors to North Carolina online.

The three retail locations you can gamble at are:

  • Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, NC
  • Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino in Murphy, NC
  • Catawba Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain, NC

Which sportsbooks will launch in North Carolina?

With around 10.5 million people in NC, there is a big market for sportsbooks to target from March 11.

We're expecting multiple sports betting sites to begin operations on or around that date, including the following, who have all applied for North Carolina online sports betting licenses:
