Could Lashana Lynch Be the First Female Bond**?**

The hunt for the next bond is on, and it’s a fight. Oddsmakers give seven actors and one actress +1000 odds or better to land the role. The most notable being Lashana Lynch, best known for her role as Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel.

Lynch isn’t the favorite to land the role with +600 odds or an implied 14.3% chance. However, she is among the top-5. The only actors with better odds are James Norton, +560, Clive Standen, +400, Rege-Jean Page, +340, and Tom Hardy, +250. Lynch stands out not only because she’d be the first woman to play bond but also the first person of color to play bond. The only other person of color among the top-5 is Rege-Jean Page.

While oddsmakers believe in Lynch, bettors don’t. Over the last 30 days, Lynch has only seen 2.4% of bets, the 11th best on the market. Again, she’s the highest-ranked woman on the market. The betting market is really led by two men, Tom Hardy at 14.6% and Rege-Jean Page at 12.2%.

Could James Bond be a woman for the first time? It’s possible, but it doesn’t seem likely based on the odds and betting trends. Lynch is certainly in the running, but there’s a heavy gap between her and the favorites. At +340, Page is given a 22.7% chance, and Hardy is given an 18.6% chance at +250. Add on top the way betting is currently going, and it feels like those two have separated themselves from the pack.
