2022 Oscars Best Actor Odds: Does Will Smith Have It Locked Up?

The 94th Academy Awards may still be three months away, but bettors can still find 2022 Oscars betting odds available for action. One of the more intriguing races to follow is the Academy Award for Best Actor. Currently, the betting odds to win Best Actor show a runaway favorite and only three names priced lower than +1200.

That runaway favorite is Will Smith. Thanks to his performance in “King Richard” as the father of tennis superstars Serena and Venus Williams, Smith is a unanimous frontrunner to take home Best Actor at the 2022 Oscars. With three months remaining before the ceremony, there is still time for another actor to rise up as a No. 1 contender.

Many film industry experts point to British actor Benedict Cumberbatch as being the most likely challenger for Will Smith. In fact, one can find various arguments that suggest the gap between the two is not nearly as large as the current Oscars betting odds might suggest. While Smith is an odds-on favorite at -227, bettors can wager on Cumberbatch at a fine value of +800.

2021 was a busy year for Cumberbatch who has seen his performance in “The Power of the Dog” spearhead his recent run of praise and accolades. He also turned in solid performances in each of “The Courier,” “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. Given his overall body of work, some experts believe that he will emerge as the Oscars Best Actor frontrunner by the time the awards ceremony rolls around.

At the very least, both Smith and Cumberbatch figure to be in line for Oscars recognition. The same can be said for Andrew Garfield and Denzel Washington. The Oscars betting odds appear to agree with the industry experts when it comes to the four top choices on the board.

With four men presumably locks to be finalists, that leaves one more seat available at the table of five. The six actors who are considered most likely to nap that fifth spot are priced anywhere from +1600 to as high as +3300. While the Oscars betting odds match expert analysis on the top four candidates, there are disagreements between the presumed “frontrunners” to land the final nomination and the betting lines. Two of the bunch (Mahershala Ali and Clifton Collins Jr.) are not even listed among the current odds.

With all of that being said, all signs indicate a two-horse race between Smith and Cumberbatch when it comes to actually winning the Academy Award for Best Actor outright.
