2022 Oscars Odds: The Power of the Dog Favored to Win Best Picture
After taking home the Best Picture – Drama at the Golden Globes, The Power of the Dog is now favored to take home the Oscar. In doing so, it would be the fifth time since 2010 that a film won both awards.
The Power of the Dog is given +175 odds, or an implied 36.4% chance to take home the Best Picture Oscar. Its biggest competition, according to oddsmakers, is Belfast. Kenneth Branagh’s masterpiece is given +275 odd, or an implied 26.7% chance. Oddsmakers also give an outside shot to Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story at +370, or an implied 21.3% chance.
The other nominees are just varying degrees of longshots. Licorice Pizza is given +1400 odds, or a 6.7% chance to pull off the upset. King Richard is given +1900 odds, or an implied 5% chance.
The Oscars nominees are due later this week, but oddsmakers are ahead of the game. They list decently strong odds for 11 movies. However, the favorites are clear. The Power of the Dog leads the way, Belfast is a close second, and West Side Story is a contender to be the first musical to win the award since Chicago in 2002. Of course, the original telling of West Side Story won the award in 1961.
