The 94th annual Academy Awards will be underway on Sunday, March 27 in order to celebrate the past year in film. Since 2019, the ceremony has been without a host but that will change as Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes will host the show together.
There are some huge films like The Power of the Dog, CODA, West Side Story, and more that are expected to have busy nights. Experts also believe that Will Smith and Jessica Chastain could be first-time winners.
We will be looking at three experts, Justin Chang (Los Angeles Times), Tim Cogshell (KPCC's FilmWeek), and Dave Karger (TCM), and seeing what their picks and predictions are for the 2022 Oscars.

Some more love for The Power of the Dog. All three experts are predicting a win for Jane Campion who directed the film.
Best Actress
- Justin Chang: Olivia Coleman (The Lost Daughter)
- Tim Cogshell: Olivia Coleman (The Lost Daughter)
- Dave Karger: Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye)
Finally a split decision! Chang and Cogshell are both on Olivia Coleman who played Leda. The story is about a woman whose vacation takes a turn when she confronts her past troubles.
As for Jessica Chastain, she plays Tammy Faye. Her performance as the legendary, Tammy Faye was beloved by critics and many think she has a real shot to win her first Oscar.
Best Actor
- Justin Chang: Will Smith (King Richard)
- Tim Cogshell: Peter Dinklage (Cyrano)
- Dave Karger: Will Smith (King Richard)
Surprisingly, Will Smith has never won an Oscar before. That very well can change due to his impressive performance as Richard Williams, the father of Serina and Venus Williams. Peter Dinklage is certainly a less popular pick. He was the lead in Cyrano a movie about a wordsmith who helps a young man get the girl with his love letters.

Ariana DeBose was stellar in her performance as Anita in West Side Story. She's an incredibly popular pick for supporting actress. As for Kirsten Dunst, Benedict Cumberbatch wasn't the only one who had a strong performance in The Power of the Dog. She has a worthy cause to take home this award as well.
Supporting Actor
- Justin Chang: Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog)
- Tim Cogshell: J.K. Simmons (Being the Ricardos)
- Dave Karger: Troy Kotsur (CODA)
We have three different answers for the first time here. Chang is going back to The Power of the Dog for Kodi Smit-McPhee. He plays Peter Gordon who is the son of Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst). Simmons plays William Frawley who was a part of the I Love Lucy show. Finally, there is Troy Kotsur who plays Frank Rossi in CODA. Critics everywhere appreciated his performance in that film as a supporting actor.
