Jane Campion's biggest competition is Kenneth Branagh, Steven Spielberg, and Paul Thomas Anderson. The director of Belfast, Branagh is given +2300 odds, or an implied 4.2% chance to win the award. Belfast is the oddsmakers’ third favorite to win Best Picture.
Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg is looking to join only John Ford, Frank Capra, and William Wyler as directors who’ve won the award three times. The West Side Story director is given +2300 odds as well, or an implied 4.2% chance to achieve the historic feat. Paul Thomas Anderson the director of Licorice Pizza, is also pegged at +2300 by oddsmakers.
Jane Campion seems a lock to take home Best Director. With -2400 odds, oddsmakers seem sure that she has this one in the bag. It would take a major upset for Jane Campion to not win Best Director for the first time in her storied career.
