2022 Oscars Odds & Betting Data: Where Has The Money Been Going?

The Oscars, a night of celebrating the film and the artists who make it possible, is coming this Sunday. It'll be the 94th annual Academy Awards and it's supposed to be a great one. You have films like The Power of the Dog which has been nominated for an impressive 12 awards.

CODA, King Richard, and West Side Story are also films that have garnered a ton of attention leading up to the 2022 Oscars as well. We're going to look at some of the major categories for the Academy Awards and see who is getting the most love from the oddsmakers and the betting public.

Best Picture

The Favorite: The Power of the Dog -135 (Bet $135 to win $100)

The Most Popular Bet: CODA +100 (Bet $100 to win $100)

In the past week, 70% of the bets that have come in have been on CODA to win Best Picture. This feels like a two film race between CODA and The Power of the Dog. The critics and oddsmakers tend to lean towards The Power of the Dog while the public likes the feel-good story of CODA. Directed by Sian Heder, CODA tells the story of Ruby Rossi who is the only hearing member of her family as the child of deaf parents.

Best Actor

The Favorite: Will Smith -600 (Bet $600 to win $100)

The Most Popular Bet: Will Smith -600 (Bet $600 to win $100)

Here's a spot where the favorite is also the most popular bet as well. In King Richard, Will Smith crushed it. He is a heavy favorite (clearly) to take home his first ever Academy Award for his performance as the father of Serena and Venus Williams. The betting public has placed 57% of the bets on him this past week.

Best Actress

The Favorite: Jessica Chastain -160 (Bet $160 to win $100)

The Most Popular Bet: Penelope Cruz +500 (Bet $100 to win $500)

This is an interesting thing here is Penelope Cruz was once a longshot. She jumped from +2000 up to +500 this week. As a result, 45% of bets coming in this week was on her to take home the award. This is an interesting one to keep an eye on and see if she makes a late push with the odds.

Best Director

The Favorite: Jane Campion -2400 (Bet $2400 to win $100)

The Most Popular Bet: Jane Campion -2400 (Bet $2400 to win $100)

I think I'm most confident in Jane Campion winning best director. The Power of the Dog is a powerhouse with 12 nominations and it could win a ton of awards on Sunday but the one I am most confident in that film taking home is this one, best director. The payout isn't great but 61% of the betting public is in on Campion too.
