Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Odds: Can Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo Set New World Records?

Joey Chesnut and Miki Sudo are the greatest hot dog eaters ever. They’ve won a combined 21 Nathan’s Hot dog eating contests. That’s small stuff now, as oddsmakers believe there’s a real chance that both will set new world records this year.

Chesnut set the record last year at 76, and oddsmakers give him -135 odds to eat at least 75 this year. That’s an implied 57.4% chance to challenge his own world record.

Meanwhile, Sudo’s over/under is already set at a world record high 49.5. Unlike Chesnut though, oddsmakers aren’t sure if she’ll hit the over as she’s given equal -120 odds to go over or under. That’s still an implied 54.5% chance to set a new world record.

Of course, oddsmakers don’t believe there’s a challenger for either. Chesnut is given -3000 odds, or an implied 96.8% chance to win the Men’s division. Sudo is given -5000 odds, or an implied 98% chance to win the women’s division.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Chesnut and Sudo set new world records at the same event. In 2020, they both set new world records. Of course, in 2020 oddsmakers didn’t expect either to set new world records. In fact, Chesnut ate 3 more hot dogs than his over/under and Sudo ate 8 more than hers. Are the oddsmakers underestimating the pair again this year?
