The latest Thor movie, starring Chris Hemsworth, came out this past weekend and started with a bang. On opening weekend it grossed $143 million which is 12th best opening for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, trailing Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 which was $146.5 million.
Will it be the highest-grossing movie of 2022 though? Here's what the box office odds have to say about that.

Thor: Love and Thunder Box Office Odds
While it was a solid opening weekend for Thor, it's going to be very difficult to see that film beat out some of the others of 2022. Avatar 2 and Top Gun: Maverick are tied for the best odds, and a 54.55% chance.
So far, Top Gun: Maverick is the highest-grossing film of the year coming in at a whopping $586 million. Doctor Strange is the next closest tailing by $175 million.
Marvel movies tend to do very well at the box office. Over the last five years, three of the highest-grossing films of the year have been Marvel movies in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Avengers: Endgame (2019), and Black Panther (2018).
Thor: Love and Thunder isn't the only Marvel movie on this list though. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has a better chance at +600 or an implied chance of 14.29%. It's not impossible but it's going to be tough for Thor to lead the way in 2022.
