NASCAR’s Super Bowl, the Daytona 500, is finally here. And, just like football fans ahead of the Super Bowl, racing fans are flocking to the window to get bets in on their favorite drivers. Denny Hamlin has won the race two times in a row, and is, predictably the favorite for this year’s race.
Not only has Hamlin won two straight, but he’s also won three of the last five, coming in first in 2016 as well. Austin Dillon won it in 2018 and in 2017 it was Kurt Busch that came in under the checkered flag as part of Stewart-Haas racing.
But what does the rest of the field look like? Who are the majority of bettors betting? Let’s break down the field, some of the most popular picks and what the odds are saying.
Daytona 500 Betting
As mentioned before, Hamlin is the favorite for the 2021 Daytona 500. Hamlin’s odds sit at +800 (click to bet), which is pretty good considering how dominant he’s been at this track the past few years. Those +800 odds imply an 11.1% chance he wins it for a third year in a row.
As far as popularity in the betting market is concerned, Hamlin is also at the top in that regard. 15% of bets and 18% of the money is on the defending champ, according to DraftKings.
After Hamlin, the field starts to open up a bit. Chase Elliott is the second favorite with +1000 odds while Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano sit at +1200. Kyle Busch rounds out the top five of the 2021 Daytona 500 odds at +1300.
But, outside of Hamlin, who is the most popular pick in the 2021 Daytona 500 betting market? Elliott is the second most popular pick with 14% of all bets and money on him. After that, it’s Busch with 7% of the tickets behind him.
