Georgia Gubernatorial Race Odds: Oddsmakers See a Dead Heat

Georgia has become one of the biggest swing states in the United States. The formerly deep red state has turned purple quickly, and Stacey Abrams has a lot to do with it. Now, oddsmakers believe that she may be the next Governor of Georgia.

In 2018, Abrams fell just short after some controversial policies were passed by per opponent Brian Kemp. Four years later Abrams is the odds-on favorite to win the seat. She’s given +175 odds, or an implied 36.4% chance to become Georgia’s first woman and first black governor.

However, she’s not alone at the top. Former senator David Perdue is expected to be a big challenge. He’s also given +175 odds to win the upcoming election. Meanwhile, Governor Kemp is given +250 odds, or an implied 28.6% chance.

Bettors are backing Abrams to win the race. She’s seen 50.5% of bets placed. Perdue is second with 25.6% of bets placed on him. Kemp has seen 12.2% of bets.

Stacey Abrams is the only Democratic candidate in a swing state that bettors are backing. That’s how strongly they believe that the state’s swing towards being blue has become. Oddsmakers aren’t as convinced, and it’s hard to blame them. Recent polling shows Abrams losing to both Kemp and Perdue. Still, the race is going to be one of the tightest of the 2022 cycle.
