MLB Picks & Parlays - Wednesday 04/17
Another big slate, and more picks!
Here are Today’s MLB Picks:
Cardinals @ Brewers
The over in this one cashed in just 6 innings yesterday as we were able to cruise to the green, and I think we may be in a similar situation today. Corbin Burnes will take the mound for the Brewers and he's been a disaster this season, posting a 10.05 ERA over 3 starts. He's given up 12 ER in his last 9.1 IP with just 9 K's to 5 BB's. He'll face Michael Wacha who got lit up for 7 runs in his last outing, and has given up 13 BB's in just 15.1 IP which isn't a good sign. Both of the first two games in this series went over the total easily and I think we'll see that again tonight.
1.5u - Over 9.5 Total Runs @ -105
Royals @ White Sox
Brad Keller has quietly been one of the most consistent pitchers in the league dating back to the last few weeks of the 2018 season. He has the highest active streak of starts lasting at least 6 IP in the MLB as he's pitched 9 of those in a row, and he'll be tough for Chicago to score more than a couple on. Kansas City has only put up 5 runs in the first two games of this series themselves and I think we're in for a low-scoring affair here.
1u - Under 9 Total Runs @ -120
Indians @ Mariners
As we picked last night, the Mariners continued their recent struggles as they extended their losing streak to five games. They've managed to score just nine runs over their last four games and will put Erik Swanson on the mound for his first career MLB start - it's going to be hard for them to get ahead in this one without providing some run support, which they've been reluctant to do lately. Roll with Cleveland.
1.5u - CLE Indians ML @ -130
Pirates @ Tigers
Last night was brutal in this series for us, as I took Under 7.5 Total Runs and the score was 3-3 going into extra innings, but thanks to a 2-run HR in the 10th we had to take a brutal beat. Today, I'm not letting that turn me off of this one as I like the under again, as we have two teams in the bottom 8 of scoring in the MLB with Trevor Williams on the mound for the Pirates, who has posted a 2.45 ERA across 3 starts this season and has looked in good form, and he'll face Spencer Turnbull who has yet to give up more than 3 ER in a start this season.
1u - Under 8.5 Total Runs @ -110
Giants @ Nationals
Jeff Samardzija will try to break the curse the Nats have had over him for the last year or so, as he's gone 0-6 with a 7.39 ERA in his last 6 starts against Washington. The Nats tore up their lineup this offseason and obviously there are a lot of new faces, so I'm taking this info with a grain of salt but I do think that Samardzija is due for some regression. He'll face Jeremy Hellickson who has made just one start this season, pitching 6 scoreless innings against Philadelphia. I don't trust the Giants' bats at all even after last night and am really liking Washington's price here.
1u - WSH Nationals ML @ -130
Cubs @ Marlins
The Cubs roll into this one looking to complete a sweep of the lowly Marlins. They've outscored Miami 11-2 so far in this series, and Cole Hamels will take the mound and look to continue a solid start to the season. He's allowed just 3 ER in his last 14 IP with 11 K's and 0 BB's in that span, and a Marlins offense that scores the fewest runs in the league will struggle to get much of anything on the board in this one.
1u - CHC Cubs -1.5 @ +100
Orioles @ Rays
The Rays are pretty unbelievable - they're starting to look more and more like a legitimate contender for the AL East title, which is insane considering how good the Yankees and Red Sox both are. They're allowing just 2.5 runs per game this season and their pitching staff has been an honest-to-god marvel - shout out to Tampa's coaching staff, this has been really cool to follow. They're starting Ryne Stanek in what should be a bullpen game for the Rays and Stanek's posted a 2.16 ERA across 8.1 IP so far this season with 10 K's and 2 BB's. The Orioles aren't going to score more than a couple runs and David Hess has been serviceable so far this season on the other end.
1.5u - Under 8.5 Total Runs @ -120
Blue Jays @ Twins
Man, I'm loving this totals given the pitchers on the mound in this one - Jake Odorizzi is starting for Minnesota, and he's posted a 6.35 ERA across three starts so far this season and has three more walks than he does strikeouts. Meanwhile, Trent Thornton will take the mound for the Jays and he hasn't fared much better, coming off an outing against the Rays in which he allowed 5 ER in just 3 IP. Neither of these guys are remotely trustworthy and I'm happily taking the over.
1u - Over 9 Total Runs @ +100
Astros @ Athletics
Okay, why are the Astros dogs exactly? They've won 10 straight games coming into this one and continued their sizzling stretch in a 9-1 beating of the A's last night. Wade Miley will take the mound for Houston and he's been absolutely dominant against Oakland in his career, posting a 0.92 ERA in 3 starts. The Astros are averaging 6.44 runs per game over their last 9 games, and I think there's a ton of value in this price.
1.5u - HOU Astros ML @ +100
