Our picks for today's MLB action
ANALYSIS

After a quiet but very entertaining start to the week with the games on Monday, Tuesday sees a full slate of evening games to choose from.

Here are Today’s MLB Picks:

Cubs @ Pirates

Monday saw a high scoring affair between these two teams, as the Pirates scored a whopping 18 runs. Tuesday could see another boat load of runs with high temperatures highlighting many of the games. The Pirates are not likely to score 18 runs again, but they should be able to get some in favourable weather conditions against Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks has had mixed success in his last five road games, allowing just one earned run twice, but a total of 16 in the other three. Joe Musgrove has been equally as inconsistent at home, allowing 15 earned runs in his last four games in Pittsburgh. Lines set at 9-or-9.5 are not 12-3-2 in games in Pittsburgh, so I like the chance of the over hitting again in this one.

1u – Over 9.5 Total Runs @ +110

Yankees @ Mets

What a weekend the Yankees had in London, scoring 28 runs in two games to sweep the Red Sox. Now they come back to the US for the road part of the Subway Series, with a chance to put runs up on another of their rivals. This line seems awfully low, given there is good weather for hitters in New York right now, and the respective pitchers. James Paxton has struggled mightily on the road this season, allowing 17 earned run in 25 2/3 innings, with a .314 batting average against. Equally Zack Wheeler has not been all that impressive at home, allowing a 4.30 ERA. His home record is better than he has been away from Citi Field, but this Yankees line-up is going to be tough, especially with soaring temperatures and the wind blowing out to right field.

1u – Over 9 Total Runs @ +100

Indians @ Royals

This pick makes me very nervous, as I do not like trusting these two teams to hit the over. However, the weather is roasting in Kansas City, and the wind will be blowing out to left field, which should boost offense. Last year a game involving Trevor Bauer would be an absolute lock to go under, but he has had struggles this year. Granted he has been much better on the road than at home in 2019, but there have been enough struggles for me to no longer avoid his games going over. For the Royals Jakob Junis has really struggled, with a 5.36 ERA at home this season. The right-handed pitcher has been up-and-down all year, and the weather in this one suggests we could be about to see a down day.

1u – Over 9 Total Runs @ +100

Giants @ Padres

I took the over last night, but I was not expecting the Giants to go quite as big as they did. However, Tuesday presents another opportunity for the over to hit, especially with more favourable hitting weather in this game, thanks to the wind blowing out to right field. Matt Strahm has allowed 21 earned runs in his last four starts, including 11 in 9 1/3 innings at home. Tyler Beede has been inconsistent this year, but the weather advantage for the hitters means I expect the Padres, who rank 10th in home runs this season, to be able to get hold of him in this one.

1u – Over 8.5 Total Runs @ -105
