The rain off in Chicago yesterday means that we have 16 games for our entertainment today. 15 of those games fall in what should be a very busy evening slate.
Here are Today’s MLB Picks:
Cubs @ Phillies
This is an interesting pitching matchup between Jason Vargas and Jose Quintana. It has been a mixed season for Vargas, but he has only allowed over four earned runs once in his last 10 starts. As for Quintana, he has been up and down, but recently he has been pitching well. In his last three starts he allowed just six earned runs in 17 2/3 innings, and currently has just a 2.08 ERA and a .196 batting average against in August. With the weather expected to favor pitching in this one the under looks the right side on this one.
1u – Under 9.5 Total Runs @ +105
Dodgers @ Marlins
I cannot back the Dodgers enough in this one. Clayton Kershaw versus Jordan Yamamoto is a massive pitching mismatch. In his last four starts, Yamamoto has allowed 19 earned runs in 20 innings. He has had a lot of bad luck with nearly every hitter he has put on base scoring runs, but the Dodgers are a team you do not want to come into a game against on bad form. Compare that to Kershaw who has allowed seven earned runs in his last six starts and 38 innings. The Dodgers should win this one by a couple of runs and it is really up to you how high you want to push the line. I am going to take the 2, but 2.5 is tempting as well.
1u – LA Dodgers -2 @ -113
Cardinals @ Royals
This is another big pitching mismatch right now with the form that both pitchers are on. Jack Flaherty has allowed just four earned runs un his last six starts with 49 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings. In contrast, Glenn Sparkman is struggling massively allowing 22 earned runs in 19 2/3 innings. In that time, he has allowed 31 hits and walked nine while striking out just 15. The Cardinals have covered all of their last four, including scoring 11 last time out against the Pirates.
1u – STL Cardinals -2 @ -105
