Daily Picks 09/15: Red Hot Rays
Here are Today’s MLB Picks:
Both these teams have been going-off in the total run department as of late, with each team allowing, and putting up huge scores in their recent outings.
Today’s total is set at 11.5, and it looks too high, given the pitching match-up for their third series game. This afternoon Sean Manaea heads back to the mound for his third start since returning from his shoulder injury. He looks to be right back to his best after only allowing one run over 12 innings, and putting up a very respectable 15 SOs. Opposing him today is Jonathan Hernandez making only his second start for the Rangers. Hernandez allowed three runs in just 2 2/3 innings in his last start against the Orioles, but he’ll be keen to build upon his scoreless inning that he pitched against the Rays last time out.
We’ll be taking the under in this one. I expect some scoring regression from both teams following their recent numbers, 11.5 just looks to be too high of a total, given the change-up in pitching.

The Angels’ form has been on a nosedive, they’ve now gone 4-16 over their last 20, with 11 of their losses coming by 2 or more runs. The Rays however have been storming as they look to see out their season with a playoff place. They have the 2nd best AL record on the road at 46-29, and they’re now riding an overall record of 13-3, with all but one of those wins coming by 1 or more runs.
Today Ryan Yarbrough is the starting pitcher for Tampa Bay, whose only allowed seven earned runs in his two starts this month, spanning 13 innings. The rookie Patrick Sandoval will be up against him today, and he’ll be limited to 50-60 pitches. He allowed 3 runs over 3 1/3 innings against the Indians on Monday, and I’m not expecting an impressive showing from him today against this red hot Rays team.
