As always Monday brings us a slightly quiet slate, but there is still plenty of intriguing action today as a number of potentially playoff shaping battles take to the field.

Here are Today’s MLB Picks:

San Diego Padres @ Milwaukee Brewers

I do not love backing the Brewers ATS as they cover the spread just 40% of the time at home and just 36% of the time as favorites. However, this time of the season is somewhat strange as teams have differing motivations. The Brewers are in the middle of a frantic playoff race while the Padres are likely already thinking about 2020. The Padres are starting Garrett Richards in this one as he returns

Zach Davies appears to have come through his late-July and early-August wobbles and has allowed just four earned runs in his last 14 innings. He is struggling to go deep in games but should be the more consistent option of these two pitchers. Trailing by three games in the NL Central and one game in the Wildcard race the Brewers need to try and take every game against the likes of the Padres.

1u – Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 @ +125

Washington Nationals @ St. Louis Cardinals

This game has huge playoff implications, with the Cardinals looking to cling onto the NL Central and the Nationals looking to stay in pole position in the Wildcard race. The Nationals will have Stephen Strasburg on the mound, who is a really good pitcher with a 3.61 ERA on the road this season. The Cardinals will counter that with Dakota Hudson and his 2.92 home ERA. In games with a spread set at either 8-or-8.5 for the Cardinals at home the under is 22-18-1. The weather is expected to be favoring the pitchers in this one, which should add to a tight, closely fought battle.

1u – Under 8 Total Runs @ -111
