Arizona Diamondbacks at Texas Rangers Predictions

Unlike its predecessor, the Ballpark in Arlington, Globe Life Field has surprisingly proven to be a pitcher’s park out of the gate. Well, at least if the first three ever regular season games there are any indication after seeing under bets sweep the opening series this past weekend.

But don’t expect that to become the norm. It’s just a matter of time before the Rangers’ new stadium experiences its first over — and perhaps a boon of them, like the old ballpark — and this looks like a fine spot where that indeed may occur.

Yes, both offenses didn’t exactly light the world on fire in their first 2020 action. However, these are normally two active lineups involved and ones capable of getting to this pair of starting pitchers.

Gibson, one of Texas’ additions for the rotation over the offseason, took a considerable step back a season ago from his solid showing the year prior. While he ironically tied his career high in wins with 13, he’s also coming off a campaign that saw him post an unpleasant 4.84 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. The former Minnesota Twin didn’t have a strong summer camp either.

Meanwhile, Kelly impressed in earning the No. 5 slot on the Arizona pitching staff right before the season began. He showed some flashes last year, too, as a rookie, but was ultimately a little inconsistent.

That was especially the case on the road, where Kelly’s ERA was nearly two runs higher (5.42) than at home (3.49). Opposite a potent Rangers batting order, this erratic work may arise. Either way, figure at least one of the two hurlers doesn’t have his best stuff this evening.
