Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction
Lost in Milwaukee’s underwhelming three-hit shutout loss on opening day was the nice performance from Woodruff, who seems to have picked up where he left off from his solid first full season as a starter.
Woodruff was very impressive last year, going 11-3 with a 3.62 ERA in 22 starts while logging 10.58 K/9, a very impressive number for any youngster. Hence why he got the honors of taking the ball in the first game of the campaign for the Brewers.
This looks like someone who is still trending up and establishing himself as one of the select few dependable arms in a Milwaukee rotation that lacks them. Additionally, he draws a light-hitting opponent — in a pitcher’s park, no less — in this assignment and one whom he mostly had success against a year ago.
While Woodruff is typically more consistent, his counterpart this evening can also be trusted to come through with a useful outing. He’s a guy I like to keep evolving in the right direction. That would be Musgrove, who also started opening day for his club, and though he didn’t provide the most stellar performance, it was still a positive outing overall.
Of note, Musgrove threw 99 pitches for his season debut, indicating he’s already fully prepared for a sizable workload every five days. Getting the game to Pittsburgh’s underrated late-inning relievers can prove useful.
As important as anything, the two lineups involved haven’t been very productive in the early going. The Pirates are hitting .174 as a team, tied for second-worst in the bigs, while the Brewers aren’t much better, being fifth-worst with a .201 mark.
Im definitely taking this under tonight; just wait first to see if line inflates to 9 (since there’s zero chance it goes to 8), which protects us in the very possible event of a 6-3 final.
