New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves Predictions

The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves meet again on Wednesday night for the third game of their series. The Mets won the first game of the series, 3-1, the second game 4-3 and tonight they battle again for placement in the NL East. Can the Mets’ bats finally wake up this season? Will the Braves’ high-powered offense live up to the hype against a division rival? Check out my New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves prediction.

New York Mets

The Mets have in first place in the NL East and they’ve done it pretty much exclusively with pitching. They are, without a shadow of a doubt, the worst offensive team in Major League Baseball. They’re last in runs, hits, double and total bases. They are an insane 71 total bases behind the 29th ranked team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Their prized offseason acquisition, Francisco Lindor, is struggling to put it nicely. Lindor is hitting .185, has three home runs, 8 RBI and has struck out (22 times) more than he’s walked (20 times). Pete Alonso, once considered one of the most promising young power bats in baseball, is hitting .242 and has just 6 home runs.

Nothing is working offensively. That’s the bad news for the Mets. The good news? They’re in first place in the NL East despite that and have two of the best pitchers in baseball so far this season with Jacob deGrom and Taijuan Walker.

Atlanta Braves

It’s obvious why the Mets have underachieved. It’s less obvious for the Atlanta Braves. The bats are coming through, but it’s been a lack of solid pitching, particularly from the starters, that has done them in. And, unfortunately for Atlanta, another one of those struggling starting pitchers is taking the mound tonight.Charlie Morton has racked up a 5.08 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He has a negative WAR and has allowed a team-high 40 hits in eight starts.

Morton will end up being the key to this one. If he pitches well, Atlanta should win easy, if not, it’ll be a long night playing catch up against a team that doesn’t give up a lot of runs in the first place.

New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves Predictions

I took the under on Monday, it hit by about 1,000 runs. I’m doing the same thing with my Mets vs. Braves prediction this time around and taking the under, but I’m not as confident as I was on Monday. We had Taijuan Walker going for the Mets there, but this time around it’s David Peterson and he doesn’t give me the same level of confidence. Still, the under is a safe enough bet here as the Mets are a threat to get shutout literally every time they step on the diamond.
