MLB All-Star Game Prediction, Picks & Odds: Will Shohei Ohtani Hit a Home Run?

After last night’s unbelievable show put on by Trey Mancini, Pete Alonso and everyone involved in the Home Run Derby, the hype around the 20221 MLB All-Star Game is a bit higher than in years past. It doesn’t hurt that some of the biggest names in the sport like Fernando Tatis Jr., Shohei Ohtani, Vladimir Guerro Jr. and Rafael Devers are in the midst of monstrous seasons, either.

So, just we’re just a few hours from the All-Star Game getting underway. It’ll be exciting to have all these players on the field but it’ll be even more exciting to wager on them using the latest MLB All-Star Game odds, available at every sportsbook.

MLB All-Star Game Predictions & Picks

American League Moneyline @ +105

The Starting pitcher advantage belongs to the National League. Shohei Ohtani is amazing, but in a year of record-low ERAs his 3.49 is just good, not great. Having said that, we’re only going to see these guys for two innings and the AL bats are just too good to pass up. NL starter Max Scherzer is a veteran, he knows how to pitch in big moments, even when nothing is on the line. But, guys like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Salvador Perez have gotten to Scherzer in their careers. In the end, my All-Star Game outright pick sides with the team with the best bats, since we’ll see so many pitchers, and that team is the American League.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to Hit a Home Run @ +320

This All-Star Game betting market is going to be absolutely flooded with Shohei Ohtani tickets, and for good reason. The guy is the best hitter in baseball right now. But, I like Guerrero Jr. to hit a dinger, and it could come early on. Guerrero Jr. is 2-for-6 in his career against starter Max Scherzer and both those hits have been home runs. Not to mention that his stats against the NL this season are downright scary. In 15 Inter-League games, Vladdy is hitting .400 with eight home runs, 19 RBI and a .909 slugging %. He absolutely mashes the NL, why would tonight be any different?

Max Muncy to Hit a Home Run @ +470

There is significantly less pop in the National League lineup, but if I’m playing this prop you better believe I’m playing one for each team. Fernando Tatis Jr. is the obvious pick as he’s the best player in the National League and has the most home runs on the team. But, I have my eyes on another name. I’m riding with Max Muncy to take a ball deep tonight. Muncy has four home runs in 12 games against the AL this season. He’s hitting second in the NL lineup and will be swinging for the fences, as he always does. At +470 the value is definitely there

Inning of First Score – 1st Inning @ -138

I think most people will be betting on runs tonight, and it makes sense. The game is in Colorado, the assumption about All-Star games is that they’re always high scoring and players don’t care. But, I’m more interested in the first inning score MLB All-Star game odds. Max Scherzer is a seasoned veteran, but there are some players in that AL lineup that hit him well throughout his career. As for Shohei Ohtani, I expect nerves from the first players to ever start at pitcher and lead off in the All-Star Game. I’m almost positive we’re getting a home run in the first inning by one team or another.

Total Runs Under 11 @ -112

Like I said, the perception is that MLB-All Star Games are extremely high scoring, but that just hasn’t been the case lately. Since 2006, do you know how many All-Star Games have gone over 11 runs? One and it came in a 8-6 win for the AL in 2018. The reality is these pitchers are so good and they only have to face these guys one time each. The variety of deliveries and pitch mixes keeps batters off balance. We will get some long balls tonight. But 11 runs is just a little too steep for my taste.
