Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies Predictions & Pick

Arizona Diamondbacks at Colorado Rockies

Probable pitchers: Zac Gallen (1-7, 5.03 ERA) vs. Kyle Freeland (4-6, 4.40 ERA)

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Colorado Rockies

Gallen possessed a sub-4.00 ERA at one point past the All-Star break and seemingly was continuing on his path as a real quality Major League starting pitcher.

Two rough outings within his five starts since then have ballooned that mark to where it currently sits — a 5.03 ERA, which just doesn’t look right next to Gallen’s name — but this could be used as a launching pad in cashing an under bet.

I can assure you the talented floppy-haired 26-year-old is much better than how he’s looked lately and that it would be wise to entrust him accordingly, even in the daunting task of going at Coors Field.

As a matter of fact, not only does Gallen hold nice numbers against the Rockies (3.00 ERA, 11.67 K/9 in five lifetime meetings), he’s also apparently figured out the art of surviving in Coors. Though he’s only made two starts there, Gallen’s 3.27 ERA there is definitely worth noting.

With the former third-round draft pick taking this as a serious assignment — after all, just look at his uncharacteristic numbers that I’m sure disgust someone as into their craft like Gallen — I believe he can churn out at least five or six effective innings. In a high total, that’s very crucial.

Freeland will also be capable of a solid showing; certainly based on how he’s looked from the end of June on. During this current span, the fifth-year southpaw has posted a terrific 2.53 ERA in 10 starts while limiting opponents to a .245/.286/.354 slash line. Most impressively, he’s yielded just three taters.

Clearly, Freeland appears to be returning to the form that garnered him NL Cy Young votes as recent as three years ago.

Dealing with one of those inflated Colorado totals, give me two generally steady starters when in rhythm, like we have here, to carry out a low-scoring final.
