Texas Rangers vs. Cleveland Indians Prediction & Pick
Texas Rangers at Cleveland Indians
First pitch: 7:10 p.m. ET
Probable pitchers: Taylor Hearn (2-4, 3.97 ERA) vs. Eli Morgan (2-5, 5.80 ERA)
This is the story of catching two young ascending starters at the right time as they’re starting to adjust as big leaguers.
Hearn infamously didn’t survive the first inning of his Major League debut a couple of years ago. He also didn’t escape the opening frame of his first start this season either after pitching only in relief last year.
He had largely reassumed a bullpen role until recently and now appears to be settling in as a member of the rotation.
Hearn is making his third start following that disastrous first one earlier in the campaign, pitching to the tune of a cool 3.09 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in those outings.
The soon-to-be-27-year-old southpaw comprised his most impressive start to date last time out, when he limited Seattle to two runs across five real solid innings. We’ll try to pinpoint that as a launching pad to more consistency as the season winds down. A fine effort would do here.
Cleveland also isn’t great opposite left-handed pitching, ranking in the bottom third of baseball in team OPS (.720) and batting average (.239), so that can potentially provide a boost for Hearn.
Then we have another youngster going in Morgan, who only debuted just this year, and after a nightmarish beginning to his career, the Gonzaga product is settling in.
In fact, Morgan now has three quality starts under his belt — all of which coming within his last four turns in the rotation. Two of those assignments saw Morgan punch out at least eight hitters. Well, aside from being by far the lowest-scoring club since the All-Star break. the Rangers also strike out plenty, and that creates a nice matchup for Morgan to keep surging.
