Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins Prediction and Betting Pick

Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins

Over/Under: 9

First pitch: 2:10 p.m. ET

Probable pitchers: Kris Bubic (4-6, 5.07 ERA) vs. Bailey Ober (2-2, 4.00 ERA)

Royals vs. Twins odds

Always interesting to catch two young starters doing battle that are in the very beginning of their careers and have already shown promise of being potential All-Stars at some point in the near future.

Bubic is one of my favorite such youngsters and has been since first debuting last year. The 2018 No. 40 overall draft pick also looks like he’s back on the upswing after how his last start went (in our victorious under on Labor Day), when he pitched into the sixth inning and allowed only two runs at Baltimore.

That was huge for a variety of reasons, not just because it came within hitter-friendly confines like Camden Yards, but perhaps most importantly, it marked Bubic’s return to the starting rotation.

Bubic has been shifted to the bullpen a couple of times and realizes this is his shot to seize that spot on the pitching staff for the remainder of the campaign. I see the 24-year-old capitalizing on that.

Though the Royals southpaw has yielded mixed results in his previous meetings opposite the Twins, this figures to be different. Minnesota doesn’t have some of their regular hitters from previous matchups, plus Bubic also gains a slight edge considering this division rival ranks in the bottom third of baseball in team OPS (.720) opposite left-handed pitching.

Ober, meanwhile, is another young hurler flying under the radar. In his case, he really shouldn’t be given how his first go-around in the Major Leagues has gone.

The imposing 6-foot-9 righty enters his 18th assignment of the campaign at only 2-2 (13 no-decisions!) but he’s been really solid, carrying a respectable 4.00 ERA and strikeout rate of 9.27 K/9. His walk rate is also impressively low at 1.95 BB/9.

One of Ober’s outings this year came against these Royals and he held them to just a measly run in four sharp innings. Their offense isn’t lighting the world on fire and I can see Ober keeping it going.
