Cubs vs. Brewers odds

Ah, now Burnes is getting the respect he deserves based on how he’s carried Steele to a relatively low over/under of 7.5.

It’s well deserved, of course, especially after Burnes’ latest masterpiece in which he fired (eight innings worth of) a no-hitter against the Indians (and in their ballpark).

I’ve been raving about the Saint Mary’s product all year and he’ll be in a very comfortable spot tonight to continue his National League Cy Young journey, being matched up against a club whom he’s dominated throughout the campaign.

Though it was only two meetings, Burnes couldn’t have been better, with one seeing the right-hander log a career-high 15 K’s. He also yielded only six baserunners total while collectively punching out 25 batters across 14 innings compared to zero walks.

This deflated total is also a testament to what Steele has shown in his rookie campaign. Following successful work out of the bullpen (followed by a stint at Triple-A to be stretched out, where he was also effective), the 2014 5th-round draft pick has continued to shine as a starter.

Steele is getting set to make his seventh start after providing mostly solid-as-steel work in the first six. His inaugural assignment actually came against these Brewers, whom Steele did a fine job against in limiting the NL Central leaders to three runs across five frames. Something here which closely resembles that performance would gladly be taken.

Fortunately for the left-hander, this offense is one that isn’t as tough on southpaws. In fact, Milwaukee’s .236 team batting average opposite lefties ranks sixth-lowest in the Major Leagues.

Additionally, the Brew Crew strikes out at a frequent rate with a southpaw on the hill, retiring via the K once every 3.6 AB’s.

Burnes will be pacing this bet all the way. Just a decent showing from Steele will do.

Pick: UNDER 7.5 (-113)
